Whether it’s your first time or you’re returning, Culpeper welcomes you.
Virginia is known for its history and beautiful views, but more recently has become a craft beer, wine, and spirit hub, flowing with options for everyone. Whether it’s your first time or you’re returning, Culpeper welcomes you. While at Lake Anna, make your way over to Lake Anna State Park where you’ll enjoy more than 15 miles of trails and one of Virginia’s most popular lakes. The park is open for hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping and fishing.

Stay in Culpeper
Make a pit stop at Mountain Run Winery in Culpeper, Virginia, a rustic farm winery with excellent wine. The winery’s tasting room is set in a 60-year-old corn crib. Then travel to Belmont Farm Distillery, featured on the Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” show. Belmont distills a variety of spirits including its original Virginia Lightning and Tim Smith’s Climax moonshine. The estate is also a historical battle site from the Civil War.
Relax for the night at Fountain Hall, Culpeper’s first bed and breakfast with six spacious guest rooms to choose from. Make yourself at home in the parlor and curl up with a good book from their extensive library or enjoy a card game with friends. Then wake to a short stroll down East Street and turn onto Davis Street for local shops, cuisine and other offerings all within walking distance of historic downtown Culpeper.

Drive Home from Culpeper
On the trek back home, stop at historic Fort Germanna, a memorial site to preserve the early colonial heritage of the first settlers of the Virginia region. Call 540-423-1700 to see if the Visitors Center is open during your visit, if not, the property is open for self-guided tours of the grounds and trails of the beautiful Siegen Forest. End your trip with a visit to Hammerstone Cellars on the Montpelier wine trail. This five-acre vineyard opened in 2014 and offers six varieties of vines. Then get back on the road and you’re nearly homebound.
