Virginia Spirits Month

In Virginia, September is designated as Virginia Spirits Month. The month-long holiday is dedicated to educating consumers and travelers about Virginia’s distilled spirits.

“Virginia is the birthplace of American spirits, and our 70 licensed distilleries are a part of the fastest growing sector of the beverage business,” says Governor Ralph Northam. “September is the ideal time to celebrate the rich history and important economic impact of this vital industry.”

Sept. 7: Orange Street Festival

Spend the day in historic downtown Orange on Saturday, Sept. 7 during the Orange Street Festival. Now in its 44th year, this free event is perfect for the whole family. Browse over 200 vendors with an array of products, listen to live music and indulge in local food and drinks. The children will love the Kids Zone where they can take part in fun, educational activities.

Sept. 21: Wild Roots Music Festival

Introducing the Wild Roots Music Festival, the newest music festival to the Fredericksburg area. Listen to regional and national bands and musicians at this outdoor festival located at the Wilderness Presidential Resort. In addition to a full day of live music, attendees can also visit the craft beer garden, enjoy gourmet food trucks and take part in family-friendly activities.

Beginning Sept. 27: State Fair of Virginia

Head to Doswell for the State Fair of Virginia, a tradition since 1854. This family-friendly event features Virginia’s best animals and agriculture, as well as exhibits, shows, music, arts and crafts, competitions and more. Featured shows include Chinese acrobats, a drum band, stunt circus, Heritage Village Music series and more.

Sept. 28: Happy Fall, Y’all

Welcome in the fall season at Happy Fall, Y’all, a special event from the Mineral Farmer’s Market. On Saturday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m.–2 p.m., shop an array of fall décor, goods, produce and more at this local market. There will be games for kids, an apple pie baking contest and apple pie eating contest as well.
