Your Guide to the Trails at Lake Anna State Park
Lake Anna State Park offers plenty of opportunities for some fun outside. Fish, kayak, camp and more within the 3,127-acre park. With over 15 miles of trails, Lake Anna State Park is a great place for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Here’s everything you need to know about Lake Anna State Park’s 12 trails.
Lake Anna State Park Trails
All of Virginia State Parks’ trails receive a difficulty rating of easy, moderate or difficult.
Easy trails are from .5 to 1 mile. Grades are short and typically fewer than 100 feet. These trails can be accomplished by all users, including the elderly and those with physical or mental disabilities.
Moderate trails are from 1 to 5 miles. Steepness and grade lengths vary, but at least 60 percent of the trail is fairly flat. These trails can be accomplished by healthy users with little risk of injury or fatigue.
Difficult trails are over 5 miles long. More than 70 percent of the trail is on a grade. These trails are recommended for experienced hikers, and hiking in a group is recommended. Those who are not conditioned face a risk of overexertion or injury.
Lake Anna State Park does not have any difficult trails.

Best Trails at Lake Anna State Park
Railroad Ford trail is one of the most popular trails at Lake Anna State Park, according to AllTrails.com. The easy hiking trail is perfect for families with young children, as well as those hiking with their dog. Railroad Ford offers views of the lake, and is a fantastic trail to hike if you want to take in the tree-laden landscape.
Fisherman’s trail lives up to its name, making it the best trail for those looking to fish. The hiking-only trail leads you right to the water, along with bathrooms, picnic shelter, playground and parking.

Pets are permitted on the trails, but must be on a leash. Remember to clean up after your pets.
National Trails Day
Celebrate National Trails Day, the first Saturday in June, at Lake Anna State Park. Enjoy an easy, 1.5-mile evening hike (round trip) with a park interpreter. You’ll be able to take in the sights and sounds of Lake Anna State Park, and even do some birdwatching.
Make your way along Ware Creek trail to the scenic overlook for a view of Ware Field and the waterfowl in Ware Cove. Wear comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes. You may even want to bring your camera and binoculars.
