Explore the Area Around Lake Anna by Bike

Get ready for a two-wheel adventure! Riding is a great way to get exercise while enjoying nature, whether you’re a solo rider or like to explore with the whole family. Lake Anna’s proximity to several cities and towns provides cycling enthusiasts and bike riders of all skill levels the opportunity to see new sights and experience the area’s natural setting.
Spotsylvania Battlefield
Cycle through history at one of America’s battlefields. The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House was one of the major battles for Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War. While biking along the Bloody Angle Trail and Spotsylvania History Trail is prohibited, cyclists can utilize the Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield Trails Loop. This 4.4-mile loop is perfect for all skill levels. Choose to complete the whole loop or one of the shorter trails. The well-marked path is easy to follow and even features historical markers with monuments nearby.
Orange Ramble
Take a scenic ride around historic Orange County on the Orange Ramble trail. Starting in the town of Orange, journey through the Rapidan village along the Rapidan river and down to Lake Orange. The entire loop is 32 miles, but you can do a partial ride and still view a number of historical sights and rustic farmlands. This trail is perfect for all skill levels.
Culpeper Cruise
Centralized around the quaint town of Culpeper, the Culpeper Cruise offers a scenic tour of the historic area. This 40-mile loop begins moderately hilly but smooths out as riders pass through small towns and villages. Take in the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains as well as streams, farms and wooded landscapes. Be sure to take some time to traverse Culpeper and grab a bite to eat downtown once your ride is over.
Lake Anna Century Classic
The Lake Anna Century Classic is one of the more difficult trails in the area. It is recommended for intermediate to expert bikers. The full ride encompasses 102 miles of trails but there are options for shorter rides. The area’s rolling hills and length make this a challenging course, but experienced bikers will enjoy the journey and the potential pitstops in picturesque settings. Cyclists will be able to tour Lake Anna State Park as well as parts of Spotsylvania, Orange, Louisa and Hanover counties. Begin in the small town of Montpelier then set off to experience central Virginia’s breathtaking beauty as you ride by lakes, woodlands and farms.
Lake Anna State Park
Located in Spotsylvania, Lake Anna State Park is one of the most popular outdoor facilities in the region. It offers over 15 miles of trails, many of which permit biking. Many cyclists love the Lake Anna State Park Mountain Bike Trail. If you need to take a bike break, they also have several other activity possibilities, like unguarded swimming, lodging and walking trails. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk.
