Louisa County: Small Town, Big Charm

Located in the heart of Central Virginia, Louisa County is a four-season community defined by both rural beauty and historic charm. It is home to Lake Anna, one of Virginia’s largest freshwater inland lakes, and is filled with country roads, farmlands and rolling hills.

Outdoor Recreation

For those with a taste for the outdoors, begin your journey with us on the serene waters of Lake Anna where you will find yourself simply relaxing or fishing, swimming, kayaking, water skiing, tubing or canoeing. Discover the beauty of Louisa’s rolling hills and countryside that offer a wide variety of recreational activities. Then, take the little ones to our playgrounds and dog-friendly parks.

Historical Sites

Just a short drive from Lake Anna, you can explore scenic attractions such as the Historic Courthouse in downtown Louisa. Ride or walk the equestrian trails on the original grounds of the Battle of Trevilian Station—the largest all-Calvary battle during the Civil War—or visit the Sargeant Museum to see exhibits like Native People of Louisa and the American Revolution. Be sure to not miss the annual Jack Jouett Day Festival where visitors are transported back in time through historical demonstrations.

Dining, Shows & More

There are many family-friendly activities, local attractions, dining venues, breweries, cideries, and award-winning wineries that are sure to offer you hours of entertainment. Experience the eloquence of a high-quality show at the Louisa Arts Center—the epicenter of performance, visual, musical and cultural arts in Louisa.

Year-Round Activities

The last weekend in July, you will be sure to enjoy the Louisa County Fair, an old-fashioned event with many farm animals, antique farm equipment, games, food and entertainment. We close out the summer with the Lake Anna Jazz Fest and we wrap up the year with holiday events including the Lighted Boat Parade. Schedule an excursion ride on the Virginia Scenic Railway, offering experiences throughout the year.

Where to Stay

Wind down after a full day of adventure in one of our beautifully restored historical bed & breakfasts, or continue your adventure with the activities at our family-friendly campsites. You can also stay at Lake Anna in a breathtaking waterfront vacation rental or the new Boardwalk Hotel.
